Japan’s domestic reforms and efforts to shore up its defense capacity promise to contribute to peace and stability throughout the Asia-Pacific region. But achieving this goal also requires further strengthening of Japan’s strategic relationship with the US.

Our predecessors’ actions brought great suffering to Asia’s peoples, and we must never avert our eyes from that. I uphold the views expressed by Japan’s previous prime ministers in this regard.
