Rudo Kayombo and Margaret O’Mara

Rudo Kayombo is Regional Director of Africa at BRAC International. Previously, she held leadership roles in NGOs, including Chief Operations Officer at Food for the Hungry, Executive Director for Africa for ONE Campaign, and Regional Director for the Southern Africa Region for World Vision. She also served as Country Director for World Vision in both Uganda and her native Zimbabwe.

A lawyer by training, Kayombo has spent her career leading national and international programs to deliver humanitarian emergency responses, support reconstruction in crisis-affected environments, and advance development.

The Big Push African Women Need to Escape Poverty

Kayombo shows how deploying a wide range of interventions at once can help the poor build sustainable livelihoods.

Margaret O’Mara is Professor of American History at the University of Washington. She is the author of two books on the tech industry – The Code: Silicon Valley and the Remaking of America and Cities of Knowledge: Cold War Science and the Search for the Next Silicon Valley – and a history of the American presidency, Pivotal Tuesdays: Four Elections that Shaped the Twentieth Century.

A historian of the modern United States, O’Mara writes and teaches about the growth of the high-tech economy, the history of American politics, and the links between the two.
